I built my window covering business the way most of you built yours — through instinct, hustle, and the kind of stubbornness it takes to keep going when the playbook hasn't been written yet.

And I rebuilt it. More than once.

Each rebuild brought more revenue, more team, more proof I knew what I was doing. But the work that built the business was the same work that kept me chained to it.

The third rebuild felt different. The targets were familiar. The work was familiar. But this time, dread showed up alongside the success — and it wouldn't leave.

A trusted colleague asked me one question I couldn't answer: What do you actually want? Not what the business needed. Not what made sense on paper.

What I wanted.

I sat with that question longer than I'd like to admit.

What I do now

Consult - Else Johnson

Today I work exclusively with window covering and design business owners who built the way I did — and who are ready to lead the business they built, instead of being run by it.

Through the Wise Mind Leadership Blueprint™, I help owners do what no system or strategy can do on its own: redesign how they're leading themselves, so the business can finally be led.

Why This work

Thirty years in the industry. Multiple businesses built and rebuilt. Certified in behavioral science and cognitive reasoning. Keynote speaker at the 2024 International Window Coverings Expo. Contributor to Window Fashion Vision magazine. None of which makes me the expert on your business — but all of which is why I see what most coaches can't. I was inside the same walls.

If you've built something real and you're tired of being the only one holding it together — not because you want to step back, but because everything still runs through you — there's a different way to lead from here.

It starts with a conversation.

When I'm not working

When I'm not doing this work, I'm usually outside — on a mountain bike, on a hiking trail, or somewhere a golf ball recently went without my permission. I perform with an improv troupe, which has done more for my coaching than any certification (and is also the most fun I have in any given week). I read more than I should admit to, cook for the people I love, and still find myself rearranging rooms in my own house because some habits don't quit.

My family — my husband, kids, grandkids — is the reason any of this matters. They're not the balance to the work. They're what the work was always supposed to make room for.
